Is It Time for a New System? Signs to Watch For

There are clear signals when air conditioning repair no longer makes financial sense:

• Repeated Breakdowns: One breakdown is a repair. Two or three in a single summer, especially when your system has a history of failure, point toward system replacement rather than another patch job.
• Constant Short Cycling: If your system kicks on and off every few minutes without reaching the set temperature, it’s either severely oversized, low on refrigerant, or failing. That kind of stress shortens equipment life fast.
• Your System Is 12–15 Years Old: Central Texas heat shortens equipment life. An older unit nearing a major failure is usually a better candidate for a new system than another expensive fix.
• R-22 Refrigerant: If your system still runs on Freon, supply is limited and costs are high. That changes the math on an HVAC repair fast.
• Rising Energy Bills Without A Clear Cause: Older equipment loses efficiency year over year. An energy-efficient new system cuts that gap significantly.
• Uneven Comfort Throughout Pflugerville Homes: When some rooms are always warmer than others, it often signals the system can no longer keep up.

If your heating and cooling system is showing more than one of these signs, it’s worth a real conversation — not just another service call.

What’s Included in Your New System

A proper HVAC installation is more than swapping equipment. Our professional technicians walk through every step:

1. Load Calculation: We size your system using a Manual J calculation — accounting for your home’s square footage, insulation, ceiling height, and floor plan. No guessing, no builder-grade shortcuts.
2. Equipment Selection: We recommend systems that match your home comfort needs and budget, with strong manufacturer warranties and efficiency ratings built for this climate.
3. Removal and Disposal: We handle the old equipment responsibly, including proper refrigerant recovery from the evaporator coil and existing refrigerant lines.
4. Cooling Installation: We install the condenser, air handler, new coil, and make all refrigerant and electrical connections per manufacturer spec.
5. Ductwork Inspection: We test existing lines for leaks and address any airflow issues that would undermine your new system’s performance.
6. System Testing: After the job, we run the full system to confirm it’s operating correctly and walk you through the controls before we leave.

Regular air conditioning maintenance after the first season protects your investment long-term — ask about our maintenance plans when we’re on-site.

HVAC Installation Cost in Pflugerville

How much does it cost for an air conditioner to be installed? Costs vary by system size, efficiency tier, and whether duct work needs attention. General estimates for Pflugerville’s TX 78660 area:

What Size HVAC System Do You Need?

Bigger isn’t better. An oversized HVAC system short-cycles — it cools quickly but shuts off before removing enough humidity, leaving your home clammy. An undersized system runs constantly and can’t hold temperature during peak summer heat.

Pflugerville has grown fast. Many newer homes off McNeil Road, Heatherwilde Boulevard, and Parmer Lane came with builder-grade equipment sized to minimum code — not necessarily sized for the actual home. If your system struggles to keep up and it’s only a few years old, that may be why.

General sizing guide for the Austin metro:

• Under 1,200 sq ft → 1.5–2 ton
• 1,200–1,800 sq ft → 2–2.5 ton
• 1,800–2,500 sq ft → 3–3.5 ton
• 2,500–3,200 sq ft → 4 ton
• 3,200+ sq ft → 4–5 ton

These are starting points. Ceiling height, insulation quality, window exposure, and existing duct condition all affect the final number. Our technician runs a proper load calculation on every job, not a square-footage estimate.

Should You Repair or Get a New System? The $5,000 Rule

The $5,000 rule gives Pflugerville homeowners a simple framework for a tough decision: multiply your system’s age in years by the repair cost. If the total exceeds $5,000, repair service typically costs more over time than a new system would.

Example: a 13-year-old unit with a $450 repair estimate → 13 × $450 = $5,850. Over threshold.

It’s a guideline, not a guarantee, but it gives you a clear starting point before you call. If emergency AC repairs have become the norm lately, that history factors into the calculation too.

When repair is the right call, we handle AC repair in Pflugerville the same way: fast diagnostics, honest assessment, and only the work that actually needs doing. We’re your team for installation and repair — not just new systems.
