Keller Air Filtration Solutions
Upgraded filter systems are often among the easiest and most affordable ways to improve air quality. Many homeowners in our service area have a central HVAC system. Those systems have a supply vent with an air filter. The industry rates HVAC filters by the minimum efficiency reporting value. The higher the MERV rating, the better the filtration. Modern systems often support a MERV rating of up to 13. Despite that, many homeowners use a MERV 4 filter or less. By upgrading your filter, you’ll dramatically reduce dust, pet dander, and more.
For superior air purification, we recommend an in-duct high-efficiency particulate air filtration system. A HEPA filter is a type of pleated air filter that traps over 99% of particles. That includes allergens like pollen, but also fine and ultrafine particles. Often, manufacturers include an activated charcoal stage in their HEPA Filtration systems. It helps a home smell fresher as the charcoal also absorbs gases, volatile organic compounds, and chemicals, such as ammonia.
You may also want to pair your air scrubber with an ultraviolet lamp. UV lights give off UV-C. It’s a germicidal light that will reduce bacteria and viruses in the home. It can also neutralize dust mite eggs, mold spores, and fungal spores.
Are there indoor air purifiers with integrated UV lights? There are, but experts recommend the UV light as a standalone addition because UV lights are more effective in the ducts where the air moves slower. Alternatively, mechanical filtration benefits from the air moving through the system quickly.
